Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using OpenCoven ("the Software"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.
These Terms apply to all users including individuals, organizations, and developers integrating OpenCoven into their own products.
What OpenCoven Is
OpenCoven is an open-source framework for building and running persistent AI familiars — named agents with memory, identity, tools, and continuity. It includes a daemon, CLI, harness integrations, and related packages published under the @opencoven namespace.
OpenCoven is primarily a local-first tool. You run it on your own hardware. You control your agents, your data, and your keys.
Open Source License
OpenCoven's source code is released under the MIT License. Your use of the source code is governed by that license in addition to these Terms.
These Terms govern your use of any hosted services, websites, or infrastructure operated by OpenCoven (opencoven.ai, docs.opencoven.ai, and related properties), not the open-source software itself.
Permitted Use
You may use OpenCoven to:
- Build, run, and extend AI familiars for personal or commercial use
- Integrate OpenCoven into your own products and services
- Contribute to the open-source codebase under the project's contribution guidelines
- Access documentation, examples, and official OpenCoven packages
Prohibited Use
You may not use OpenCoven to:
- Generate or distribute illegal content, including content that violates intellectual property laws, privacy laws, or anti-spam regulations
- Harass, threaten, or harm individuals
- Build systems designed to deceive users into believing they are interacting with a human when they are not, without appropriate disclosure
- Circumvent security measures or access systems without authorization
- Violate the acceptable use policies of any third-party AI provider integrated with OpenCoven (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google)
Third-Party AI Providers
OpenCoven integrates with third-party AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others). Your use of those providers is governed by their respective terms of service and usage policies. OpenCoven is not responsible for the outputs, policies, or availability of third-party AI services.
No Warranty
OpenCoven is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Software will be error-free, secure, or uninterrupted. Use at your own risk.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, OpenCoven and its contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of or inability to use the Software, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless OpenCoven, its contributors, and maintainers from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Software in violation of these Terms.
Privacy
Our data practices are described in our Privacy Policy. By using OpenCoven, you agree to the collection and use of information as described there.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of OpenCoven after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
